With Disastrous Consequences

The IRA Bomb at Bishopsgate London April 1993

I have worked at the scene of major incidents and disasters in the Greater London area since the Moorgate Underground tragedy of 1975. Incidents I’ve attended include numerous IRA bombings, such as the Bishopsgate bomb, the Canary Wharf bomb and the bomb at the Nat West Tower in St Mary Axe in the City of London, train crashes including those at Clapham and Purley, an air crash at Stansted Airport, major fires, sieges, civil disorder and violent demonstrations. I have also been involved in the medical planning for mass gatherings such as the VE Day Anniversary celebrations, the funerals of Princess Diana and the Queen Mother and Royal Weddings. In addition I have worked at several thousand serious road traffic collisions.

This experience has given me a unique insight into the problems managing mass casualties and the difficulties in ensuring inter-agency co-ordination and co-operation.
